Camper Accessories for Inside
It is always fun to go camping. Simple pleasures, like being one with nature, cooking under the stars, watching the night sky – um, need I say more? However, what you find in the ordinary camping regalia and related activities, has a negative imitative on the environment as evidenced by the waste and emissions.
Being a camper and an environmental enthusiast, I had to change my camping accessories for inside is the environmentally friendly ones for my trips. With some modifications in terms of what I use and substitution of some items with more environment friendly everyday camping commodities that I have compiled below, I was able to off-primary organise an eco friendly camping kit without missing on the fun. It is my hope that the following advise will help yours and future campouts be a little more friendly to the planet.
Reusable Dinnerware
New cups, forks, knives, spoons and plates contribute to a huge waste when used in events like a week’s camping adventure. I replaced breakable plates with reusable melamine ones, cups by enamel ones and lightweight spoons by sustainable bamboo ones. It also takes much effort and work to have to drag home a giant trash bag for cleaning afterwards too. All the new eco dinnerware you see here I purchased from GreenLife Trade – they are my go to store for sustainable outdoor equipment.
Biodegradable Soaps

Current cleaning agents include very harsh chemical substances which are washed into Lakes, rivers and streams while camping. For my favourite sites I always take with me Campsuds, natural biodegradable soap that is harmless to people and animals if someone washes them with it and spills it into the water source. A bottle lasts forever because a little bit goes a long way in terms of creating a lot of suds Much the same could be said of liquid castile soaps Dr. Bronner’s are pretty good, and and they came in a recyclable tin to boot.
Rechargeable Lighting
Different batteries are essential camper accessories and it will be costly and hazardous, thus quality rechargeable flashlights, lanterns and headlamps are ought to be the camping equipment in the present era. They are as bright as other models, all due to green technology. We prefer intense Black Diamond or Goal Zero lights that light through solar panels, cranking or USB interface. It was not cheap to do at first, but we will never have to buy batteries again.
Reusable Water Bottles
Drinking water is important when camping, but using disposable plastic water bottles is disastrous. Instead I take along collapsible recycled bottles or Camelbak Eddy flasks and these are environmentally friendly too. They are easy to carry, robust and can be refilled at my camping site all week without having to throw any. I also pack one large potable water carrier and spigot so we have sufficient quantity of water for both cooking and cleaning.
Wool Sleeping Bags

This may sound a little odd but wool is a spectacular natural camping bedding material that will keep you warm even during wet conditions. For the family, I bought merino wool sleeping bags which helps avoid use of disposable liners much as eliminate the old school down bags that are so difficult to wash. Our wool sacks are super-hydrophobic, so they don’t get smelly and can be washed only when they are taken on one too many trips. Together, plus wool is renewable and biodegradation of plus wool when it will be worn out sometime in the future.
Natural Insect Repellent
Those aerosol cans used for repelling bugs appear to be harmless but in fact contain nasty VOCs which permeate the bodies and stick onto any surface an object maybe sprayed on. Something that I do not wish my family to endure. We only spray natural eucalyptus on the environments and we also wear bug free clothes which has bug repellent coatings. The plant based formulas repel mosquitoes without use of poisonous substances as contained in the conventional formulas.
Reusable Grocery Bags
Buying ice and other essentials before hitting the local market is always a part of every camping trip. Yet, plastic shopping bags are a massive polluter a threat to the wildlife. I always carry foldable fabric tote bags in my pack so that I don’t have to use the plastic sacks from shops when shopping. Carrying food in strong reusable bags reduces unnecessary littering to protect nature preserves.
Organic Waste Disposal Bags for Dogs
Camping green also entails the state of leaving the environment you visited agents of blight or destruction. That means picking up any dog problem so fertiliser and bacteria do not seep into the nearby lakes or rivers. Normal plastic bags are for all eternity, while environmentally friendly such as Bio Bags decompose to allow ecosystems to remain stable.
Rechargeable Electronics
Whoever we are now, our phones, our e-readers, our GPS, other electronics that have pervaded our lives are camping requisites in this age. But keeping everything powered piles up to a lot of used up batteries which are usually disposed as waste. To keep your electronics going when you don’t have access to a charging outlet, invest in solar panel chargers the size of a wallet, Voltaic Systems have portable chargers. Rechargeable batteries or battery packs also save from disposing of hundreds of disposables in the landfill every year.
Rental Gear
Before I became more aware of the environment I would purchase low-quality camping gear which quickly became damaged and required to be replaced frequently. It is far kinder to the environment to rent good quality tents, stove and coolers and other tools from the outfitters. I can transport only what is required for every trip, without investing in equipment most of which lie idle throughout the year. Jungle Up, Rent Outdoor Gear, Camp Cheddars, Lower Gear and other similar outdoor equipment rental companies make it easier for users to get the right Eco-Friendly equipment for use in any adventure.
Eco Camping is Rewarding
Composting, used gear and sticking to nature makes me enjoy camping with minimal effects on the ecosystem and without sinning. When I pack for a trip, the only things that have to go with us are the wear and tear items such as utensils, cookware and sleep sacks, everything else is ready for any kind of adventure. The new traditions created in the wilderness with friends mean so much more to me than all the items one can throw away can ever be.
Hopefully sharing with you some planet friendly camping ideas will make you think about what you can do to camp in a more environmentally friendly way on you next wilderness trip while still fully embracing the off grid pioneer experience. Preservation of Earth’s wilderness for future generations is now more important than it has ever been. Some clothing swaps and smart packing will ensure that we are all camping green from now on.
